A guide for parents creating a profile for their child
By the Muthumina team ·
How to create a matrimony profile for your son or daughter that attracts the right proposals, and how to involve them along the way.
In many Sri Lankan families, parents begin the search for a partner. A good profile saves everyone time and brings proposals that actually fit. Here's how to make one.
Talk to your son or daughter first
Agree on the basics before you start: the kind of partner they hope for, whether they'd live abroad, and how much they want to be involved. A profile they're happy with leads to meetings they'll actually attend.
What to include
- Accurate basics: age, height, education, profession and where they live and work.
- Family background: parents' occupations, siblings and the family's home town.
- A short, honest description: what they're like, their interests and what they value. A few warm sentences beat a long list.
- Partner preferences: keep them realistic. Very narrow preferences mean very few proposals.
Photos
Use two or three recent, clear photos: one close-up and one full-length. Natural light works better than heavy editing. You can choose who sees the photos: everyone, members only, or only families you approve.
Horoscope
Add the date, time and place of birth so Porondam can be calculated with every profile you view. Use the time from the birth certificate. You can also check Porondam free for a proposal you've already received.
Searching for proposals
Start broad and narrow down. Filter by district, religion, education and profession, and look at the Porondam on each profile. To get a feel for who's on the site, browse Sinhala Buddhist brides, proposals in Colombo or proposals for doctors.
Handing over
When your son or daughter is ready, they can take over the profile. Many families keep searching together: parents shortlist, and the couple decide who to talk to.
When a proposal looks promising
Talk to the other family, arrange a call between the couple, and then meet. Read our questions to ask before a proposal meeting.
